Hank Gilbert of Whitehouse, Texas started his "Round the Horn" campaign tour of Texas on March 1st in Longview, Texas. As he tours the great state meeting with newspapers, T.V. & radio, Democratic CO. groups, union councils and teacher's associations . His question is; "Who’s running the store?"…while the manager is out looking for another job!" Since the Agriculture Commissioner position has been used lately as a 'temporary' title many issues aren't being resolved.

  1. Due to the current BSE/Mad cow concerns Texas cattle cannot be exported to Mexico, yet the Agriculture Commissioner is allowing Mexican cattle into Texas!
  2. The inspection seals at the gas station pumps are not current in many cases. Why pay more for gas or at least get what you paid for? Check the pump next time you fill up, our private survey found approximately 67% of the seals were not current.
  3. The same issues exist for the grocery store scales (both meat and produce) they are also to be inspected by the Texas Department of Agriculture.
Hank Gilbert wants to run the Texas Department of Agriculture as a business on a full-time basis with no 'future' political agenda. There are many other areas where the commissioner needs to focus on immediately. These priorities can be found at www.HankGilbert.com//issues or talked to him on the tour.
