I am Hank Gilbert and I am going to be your next Commissioner of Agriculture.

We've got a movement going on.

But just like anything else you have to prod people and you have to keep them interested. And that's what I appreciate about the grassroots effort and the efforts of people all across Texas.

We have good Democrats, Independents, and yes, even Republicans, helping remind people what good government is all about.

The people in agriculture and Texas are the big losers in this deal and they have been for the last 16 years. For decades, Texas led the nation in agricultural products, straight across the board. And we still lead the nation in several areas. In beef cattle production, and cotton, sheep and goat production. But now California has overtaken us and they are the leading state in total agricultural product. We just can't stand to lose any more. Texas Agriculture is #2 because the professional politician has taken a selfish, short-sighted approach over the last 16 years.

I pledge to make Agriculture First - Not Politics.

By working together, we can focus our attention on making Texas agriculture #1. We can stop paving over rich agricultural land, help consumers by by giving them reliable weight and measuring devices, and most importantly, by developing sound rural economic development policies. Maybe those accomplishments won’t make headlines, but they will improve the quality of life for all Texans.
